Michael gave his hair a quick brush, promised his stomach something to eat later, and decided it was time to go. The sun was almost up -- he stifled a groan at that thought -- and first shift security should be outside already. They'd be letting in the people working set-up and Michael and Jon needed to be down there to make sure everything went together smoothly. "Into the breach," he muttered to himself, and headed out the door.

Deep breaths. Deep breaths. Jon stared at himself in the bathroom mirror, watching it mist over as he exhaled and wiping it away with his sleeve. Okay young feller, he told himself. You can do this. Everything is organized all you have to do is supervise! Yeah, right, the devil in his head was quick to respond. And fix mistakes and find the lost, mend the broken, comfort, cajole and communicate with people. Afraid he was going to start hyperventilating if he thought about it any more, Jon girded his loins, picked up his pens, sheets and folders-stuffed haversack and, with one last look at the scared young man in the mirror, headed out to begin managing his first Carnival.

"So, doing the pony rides, huh? Any chance we could talk you into doing the Robin Hood-esque costume again? It was really quite special- I think the kids would like it," Stephen said, trying to keep a straight face.

Michael glanced at the clock and took one last look around the office. It was actually clear of clutter for once, the imminent arrival of someone from outside of Palace making it worthwhile to bring in the flamethrower and polish the place up. Hugh had brought up some sandwiches and such, and knew to show Jon and Mr. Dorff in as soon as they arrived. Which should be any minute now. He nodded to himself and grabbed the folder with his carnival notes, and sat down on the sofa to wait. ExpandRead more... )

Guy held the door open for Jon to get through with his overnight bag. The 'smart' glasses were good, but the shades of black and white they gave him were a little off and so Jon was a bit disoriented, though not too badly. Still, he was grateful for a chance to sit down, while Guy's promise of a 'cup of something and some cookies at his' was a minor godsend. With his bag safely stowed down beside his chair, Jon turned his head and looked at Guy over the top of his glasses, the myriad colors that blazed before his eyes almost blinding him. "I'm so happy to be home." he grinned. "Hospitals suck!"

Jon woke up but it was still dark. He blinked and opened his eyes but it made no difference, there was still no light. Momentarily disoriented, he heard the soft voice at the same time he realized there was something covering his eyes.

The Offer

The chapel was a nice quiet, if not a tad dusty, place to work and Jon did not think the Lord would mind, especially as he was presently busy arranging the list of sponsors of the carnival, which was charity, into some sort of order. He hummed as he worked, snatches of hymns and songs he'd heard on the music channel, steadily making his way down the extensive list and transferring the names to the list on his com.

Michael,

This is proving to be far easier than I had anticipated, I must say. Much of the structuring for bringing together all the needed components for a successful carnival is contained in the folders HRH gave to me and I am following it, may I say, religiously. [A small joke]

The permits arrived today and all is well there. In addition I have been through the list of Palace-associates and some of the emails I sent out have already been answered in the affirmative. How is the list of preferred clientele coming along?

All the responses so far indicate great excitement and a lot of enthusiasm and I was forced to contact Billy down in the basement area prematurely, as donations of goods has started long before I thought it would. He has kindly set aside an empty storage room for us.

The Carnival Workers Association got back to me and the dates I proposed are fine with them. Set up of the rides over in the Royal Park will commence on schedule, three days prior to our date and, weather permitting, will be finished in plenty of time.

Security is also coming together, despite a fair amount of grumbling. Mr. Sutherland has been given the job of co-ordination, so if you have anything you need to talk to them about, he's the man to contact. He told me this morning that they have ordered seven more Insta-scans which will be installed on each entrance and exit, the flow of foot traffic around the grounds ensuring that all carnival guests will pass through the scanners multiple times. Can't be too careful.

That's all for this report. I'm hoping to get busy on creating an electronic sign-up sheet for staff and residents in the next few days and I'll be sure to let you know before I post it.

your servant,
Jon.

Michael glanced at the clock and started wrapping up the training section of the monthly report. He was almost done anyway and could use a break before going on to budgets. He suppressed a shudder and closed the file.

After getting a call from His Majesty, he'd set up an appointment with Jon to discuss the carnival. He thought it was a great idea; they hadn't had a carnival in far too long. It was fun, great publicity, and the cause was certainly worthy.

Jon was nervous. No, Jon was awestruck and nervous, palms sweating, the hair on the back of his neck standing to attention and his pupils highly dilated. He knew this because he could see his reflection in the polish on the desk as he addressed himself to the man behind it.ExpandRead more... )

[Directly follows The Virgin Diaries- Part Four.]

Guy groaned, scrunching his face up as the light shining through the window onto him pulled him out of sleep. I was having such a good dream...Jude and I fucked Jon, and things were all better again, and that talking cat in a cage finally stopped sassing me... he complained to himself as he rolled over, his eyes opening slowly, then going suddenly wide, a smile breaking over his face. Jon wiped his hands down the front of his trousers again and checked the room over again. The butterflies in his stomach were the size of small trucks and that seemed due, in no small measure, to the fact that this day's event's involved two-fold planning. Guy and Jude would be here soon and Jon was understandably nervous.

Moving down the hall as fast as his legs could carry him, Jon opened the door to his room and shot inside, slamming it shut behind him.

Phew!

He knew from having Guy’s schedule on his com that his friend was otherwise engaged, but knowledge had little to do with nerves and his nerves were shot to hell this morning!

Jon was in no particular hurry to be anywhere. Classes were done for the day and he was heading back to his room but taking his time about it and enjoying the stroll. He turned into the corridor that would lead him to West access and spotted a familiar blond head not too far in front of him. With a growing smile, he picked up his pace and called out, "Jude! Jude! Wait up!"

Jon skipped across the hall and knocked on Guy's door. He'd been waiting anxiously for a 'decent hour' so he could disturb his friend and he bounced on his heels while he waited for the door to open. When it did, a sleepy-looking Guy blinking out at him, one hand on the doorknob and the other pushing through his sleep-mussed hair, Jon beamed. Launching himself through the opening, he wrapped his arms around Guy, lacing his fingers behind his head and hugged him hard. "Morning." he crowed.

Jon took a deep steadying breath, tugged down hard on the bottom of his new shirt and knocked on the office door. He'd been told to do so by the nice man he'd encountered on his way in, who was on his way out. It was nerve-wracking, meeting new people, he doubted that he'd ever get used to it and, in this case, meeting a new person for reasons he still wasn't quite sure of.

"C'mon then," Guy said airily to Jon as he guided him off the tram, taking a deep breath and heading towards the open-air market that extended down the street a few blocks. "This is a great place to pick up a few shirts- we can get something fun and individual at the same time, see what suits you. Plus, they're all really well made- so they'll last a long time, but not in the, 'Dear God, why won't you die?' way that Teflon clothing of you've got now does."

Takes place a few hours after The Great Cafe Riot.

.

Guy grinned despite himself as he knocked on Jon's door, backing up to lean up against the wall opposite, kicking up his foot and resting it against the wall. It was a few hours since the hullabaloo in the cafeteria, and he figured that Jon should be calmed down enough by now to talk about it. Well, maybe.

Jon sat back in the hard plastic chair and smiled at nothing and at the world in general. He was happy, no, he was incredibly happy, everything was finally coming together for him and he felt like he wanted the whole planet to share in his joy. He picked up his coffee and took a sip, feeling as if he was radiating, beaming . . . sending love and joy to the universe! There was no better feeling in the entire world!
