Email: Brother Jon to H.o.W.; M Praed. Re;Carnival

Michael,

This is proving to be far easier than I had anticipated, I must say. Much of the structuring for bringing together all the needed components for a successful carnival is contained in the folders HRH gave to me and I am following it, may I say, religiously. [A small joke]

The permits arrived today and all is well there. In addition I have been through the list of Palace-associates and some of the emails I sent out have already been answered in the affirmative. How is the list of preferred clientele coming along?

All the responses so far indicate great excitement and a lot of enthusiasm and I was forced to contact Billy down in the basement area prematurely, as donations of goods has started long before I thought it would. He has kindly set aside an empty storage room for us.

The Carnival Workers Association got back to me and the dates I proposed are fine with them. Set up of the rides over in the Royal Park will commence on schedule, three days prior to our date and, weather permitting, will be finished in plenty of time.

Security is also coming together, despite a fair amount of grumbling. Mr. Sutherland has been given the job of co-ordination, so if you have anything you need to talk to them about, he's the man to contact. He told me this morning that they have ordered seven more Insta-scans which will be installed on each entrance and exit, the flow of foot traffic around the grounds ensuring that all carnival guests will pass through the scanners multiple times. Can't be too careful.

That's all for this report. I'm hoping to get busy on creating an electronic sign-up sheet for staff and residents in the next few days and I'll be sure to let you know before I post it.

your servant,
Jon.

Jon -- sounds like things are coming along nicely.

The mailing went out to the Preferred Customers list and we're getting a gratifying number of positive responses, both in cash donations and in more practical assistance. I think most of the food and drinks will be covered this way, and we have offers of some very nice prizes for games and raffles and such. I'll ask Billy how he wants carnival items marked and then let people know they can start sending them in.

If we're firm on the dates at this point, as it seems we are, I'll send a note to the groundskeeper to not water the lawns for a day or two prior. That'll prevent any muddy spots and let people sit without getting wet.

I was looking at the layout and although it seems very convenient on paper to put most of the food and beverage booths along that one wide alley the way we did in the past, giving everyone a central place to go when they're hungry for more than popcorn and cotton candy, I remember a lot of crowding and a huge trash buildup. What do you think of spreading things out a bit, with smaller clusters of booths spotted around? If we put three or four kinds of food and a couple of kinds of drinks in each cluster, with tables and chairs and plenty of trash bins, that'll divide up the crowd somewhat and make things more manageable. I fiddled with it a bit and marked a map for you. Let me know what you think.

Michael

Dear Michael,

That last is a marvelous idea, as is the order not to water the lawn. I'm ever more grateful for your assistance now; I never would have thought of that.

Re the last; the idea that folk will not have to turn about, interrupting the flow of traffic to get food, is excellent and I have added the proposed kiosks to the plan. As the West Wing cafeteria will be open, they can share facilities and I'm looking into the possibility of opening a small section of the old East Wing kitchens for the same purpose. Maintenance inform me that they are in good repair and functional.

I am now at the stage where releasing the sign-up list is possible and I think I shall do so. Getting a head start, so to speak.

Let's try and get a face-to-face meeting in the next couple of days so we can go over any remaining issues.

your servant,
Jon
