Biography: Jonathan [Rhys-Myers] Jones
Simply Irresistible
Biography: Jonathan [Rhys-Myers] Jones.
Brother Jon is a newcomer to Balize. In fact, he’s never seen a town larger than a small village in his life before. The ride on the train from Sunmount Sanctuary down the mountain to the coast where Calera’s capital is situated was the most exciting, nerve-wracking thing he’s ever experienced in his short life.
Jon was abandoned on the steps of Sunmount 27 years ago and he grew up within its walls, embracing the teachings and the faith of the Christ at a young age. To his knowledge, Jon has no surname. The Brothers originally called him Jon Jones, but now he is just Brother Jon and is content with that. He has no family and no friends outside the Brothers.
Ordained as soon as he came of age, Jon trained as a teacher of young children, has just graduated [with honors and by correspondence for his finals] and has now received his first assignment.
The Brothers in Christ are a small order, their distance from any major centre and their simple way of life has seen their numbers dwindle in recent years. Brother Lionel, who holds position as the current teacher at the Palace hostel as well as his role as Palace Chaplain, is retiring and Jon [the sole candidate] has been given the job.
Like most Christian sects, the Brotherhood abandoned acts of self-sacrifice as ‘proof’ of faith centuries ago. Abstinence of any kind is a personal undertaking and that choice may be changed or even abandoned entirely by the individual, Brother or lay, at any time.
Jon’s personal vow was one of celibacy and chastity, a rare choice and one he was counseled against making without success. Jon was Tested at the required age and found to have the Talent of Charisma [fifty-three percent]. Therefore, he believes celibacy to be the perfect Sacrifice; his own private gift to the Christ he worships.
